My great uncle Alfredo Bettini was killed in New York just after the turn of the century (early 1900’s). How would I find out if he was buried on Hart Island?

My Grt Grt Grandfather, a Civil War Veteran, Union side, died in 1878 on W Houston, Manhattan, his daughter stated “he was taken from our home to Potter’s field” we are assuming this was Hart Island, are their any records online, or that we could write for?

Hi Angela, All the confederates from Hart Island were moved to Cypress Hills Cemetery Brooklyn 1941. Go to Hart Island Project and Melinda Hunt. Under discussions you will find another grand daughter who found her relative. Good Luck

My great,great grandfather was a prisoner held at Harts Island, during the Civil war. He was a confederate soldier from Wayne Co. North Carolina. His name was Jesse M. Jones. Can you find out where the prisoners were kept on Harts Island? There is very little information that I have been able to find. Thank you for your time.

Does no one else see Hart island as the treasure it truly is? Yes, much sadness can be associated, but I think there can be, and must be, beauty restored to the final resting place, the “home”, of the thousands and thousands buried on Hart Island. To anyone interested, check out the Blog I recently started on Hart Island: hartisland-acryforhelp.blogspot.com. Sometimes our “big mouths” can be put to good use – we just have to find our calling, don’t we.
