		<description>Great blog!

It&#039;s also important that after you digitize, if you decide to put your photos into a book -- or if you are returning them to a photo album -- make sure it&#039;s an acid-free one. Those self-stick page albums (that cover over with an attached piece of plastic) are LETHAL to photos. There are entire industries dedicated to scrapbooking now, so please take the time to make sure that your photos last as long as possible.

Visit a craft store or take a friend up on a scrapping party if you need to replace your albums. Someone in your family 50 years from now will thank you for it.

<description>Hi, I have just today started uploading our family tree onto MyHeritage.com and inviting family. I was interested to read this blog about preserving films and photos. I have recently begun that process. It is time consuming and in some cases has cost some money. But as a baby boomer who is not fortunate enough to have a lot of memorabilia from my parents and grandparents it is very important to do this for ourselves and our descendants. It has been difficult to restore and digitize items of my ancestors that were kept in an attic or basement for decades. Also, I had approximately 25 reels of home movies transferred to VHS, which I then was able to import into my computer, using RCA cables to connect the VCR to the PC, and Windows Movie Maker, a simple program to use with some useful editing tools as well. It is not hard to then create the DVD. I purchased a scanner last year and have digitized about 2500 photos and documents. These are being transferred onto DVD as well, in the form of photo album slideshows.
